" Recknagel (1870-1940) naquit à Brooklyn (New-York) d'une mère allemande et d'un père danois qui vendait des épices et du blé. A l'âge de quatorze ans, il suivit les cours de la National Academy of Design à New-York et, plus tard, ceux de l'Ecole d'Art de Stuttgard. En 1891 il s'inscrivit dans l'atelier Laurens à l'Académie Julian et exposa pour la première fois au Salon de la Société nationale des beaux-arts en 1897... En 1899, installé à Concarneau, il incita fortement Hamilton Easter Field, un ami de Brooklin, à l'y rejoindre. Ce dernier eut tellement la nostalgie de Concarneau qu'il fonda peu après la colonie artistique d'Ogunquit dans le Maine. ... En 1902, il s'établit à Fouesnant avec sa femme, originaire de Boston, et ils y bâtirent une maison en 1906. Il exposa en France, en Allemagne et aux Etats-Unis sans avoir la nécessité de vendre...Recknagel conserva des liens avec Brooklin, y retournant après la guerre, mais il fit de Fouesnant sa résidence principale. " Recknagel (1870-1940) was born in Brooklyn (New York) from a German mother and a Danish father which sold spices and corn. To the fourteen years age, it followed the lessons of the National Academy of Design to New York and, later, those of the School of Art of Stuttgard. In 1891 it fitted in the Laurens workshop with the Julian Academy and exposed for the first time to the Salon of the " Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts " 1897… In 1899, installed in Concarneau, it strongly encouraged Hamilton Easter Field, a friend of Brooklin, to met it. This last have so much the nostalgia of Concarneau which it founded shortly after the artistic colony of Ogunquit in Maine. … In 1902, it is established in Fouesnant with his wife, originating in Boston, and they built a house in 1906 there. It exposed in France, in Germany and at the United States without having the need for selling… Recknagel preserved relations with Brooklin, going back there after the war, but it made Fouesnant its main home.
