" Joseph Milner-Kite a résidé longtemps en France et il est une des figures centrales de la colonie artistique à Pont-Aven et Concarneau à la fin du XIXe siècle. Sa peinture lumineuse a influencé les jeunes artistes anglais et irlandais séjournant en Bretagne. Fils de pharmacien, Milner-Kite est né à Taunton dans le Devon en 1862..." Etudes à Londres... Puis " à partir de 1883 à l'Académie Julian dans l'atelier de Bouguereau et de Laurens. A Paris il se lie d'amitié avec Roderic O'Conor et John lavery.. Il visite la Normandie puis Pont-Aven en 1886, Tanger et Grez-sur-Loing en 1889. Il s'établit à Paris en 1889 pour plusieurs années... A la fin des années 1880, il expose des paysages de Pont-Aven et d'autres sujets bretons à Birmingham. Retour à l'Académie Julian dans l'atelier de Lefebvre et Benjamin Constant. De 1894 à 1914 et de 1921 à 1938 il expose presque chaque année des œuvres inspirées par Concarneau principalement à ses débuts... A début du XXe siècle, il passe la plupart de son temps à Concarneau dont plusieurs hivers. Il peint des motifs du port et des scènes de marché, des fêtes et des sujets religieux... Les plus caractéristiques de Milner-Kite sont ses petites études impressionnises d'enfants bretons..."
