Il a pour élève Jeannine Guillou, qu'il épouse. Antek Teslar, dit Antoine Tudal, naît le 28 mars 1931. La famille entreprend de découvrir les Carpates à pied avant de partir à l'aventure au Maroc. (la rencontre de Jeannine et de Nicolas de Staël sépare le couple). Engagé volontaire dans la Légion étrangère en 1939-1940, il passe à Londres.
