" Johan Ericson naît en 1849 à Karlshamm. Académie des Beaux-Arts de Stockholm, puis Paris en 1878 pour un séjour qui durera jusqu'en 1884. De retour au pays, Ericson enseigne le dessin à l'école supérieure Chalmers à Gôteborg de 1885 à 1915. Après ses paysages intimistes il subit l'influence des peintres de plein air Français, ce qui, dans ses paysages, se traduira par une " étude de l'air, de la lumière, variation des sujets, légèreté et liiberté du pinceau ".

" Parmi les scandinaves venant en France autour de 1880 on distingue un grand nombre de femmes peintres. Plusieurs d'entre elles ont séjourné à différentes reprises en Bretagne par exemple les suédoises Armanda Sidwall (1844-1896), Anna Nordgren (1847-1916), Emma Löwstedt-Chadwick (1855-1932) et Anna gardell-Ericson (1953-1939). C'est surtout Concarneau et ses environs qui devient le centre de cette invasion nordique. Anna Gardell et Johan Ericson ont passé quelques étés en Bretagne. Ils se sont mariés en 1882 et, deux ans plus tard, le jeune couple rentra en Suède. Les paysages de Barbizon et de Concarneau par Johan représentent bien le réalisme mesuré des peintres suédois à cette époque. "
